Zaheer Abbas - Bio
Zaheer Abbas is the Principal Lawyer at Kay Law and Mediation, providing client-focused legal solutions. His practice encompasses family law, real estate, wills and estates, immigration, and general civil litigation. Zaheer appears before the Alberta Court of Justice and the Court of King’s Bench, advocating effectively for clients in both complex and sensitive matters.
Zaheer is known for his practical, client-focused approach and his ability to manage a wide variety of legal matters with clarity and efficiency. As a general practitioner, he is uniquely positioned to identify overlapping legal issues and provide holistic advice that addresses both immediate concerns and long-term objectives.
Prior to entering the legal profession, Zaheer worked as a Mechanical Engineer with the City of Edmonton’s Construction Services, Integrated Infrastructure Services. His engineering background, covering infrastructure design, project management, procurement, and construction oversight, enhances his ability to approach legal issues with a structured, analytical mindset, particularly in matters involving property, land, and technical disputes.
Zaheer was the founding President of the Edmonton Chapter of the Global Lawyers of Canada, contributing to its development into a national organization with chapters across Canada.
Outside of his practice, Zaheer enjoys spending time with his family. Zaheer is married and he is father to two boys Ibrahim (6) and Qasem (1). In his free time, he enjoys travelling, exploring different cultures, physical fitness training, and writing. Apart from english, Zaheer is fluent in Hindi and Urdu and is able to read Arabic.Zaheer continues to be a member of Engineers Without Borders, and during his undergraduate degree at the University of New Brunswick, he was elected Vice-President (Finance) and later the chapter Co-President. The Chapter was nationally recognized for the most improved, and Zaheer was personally awarded the University of New Brunswick's Third Century Merit Award for his leadership role.
